Stay Dry & Warm
Known as the ‘lotus effect’, the exterior wall coating creates a waterproof, ultra-hydrophobic surface because it is similar to the water-repellent properties of a lotus leaf. As rain falls, coated mineral surfaces repel the water, causing it to form beads (since the water is attracted to itself more than the surface) and run off without being absorbed. It has been tested independently and has been found to reduce water absorption by 93.4%, thus meeting the requirements of British Standard BS EN ISO 7783:2011.
Testing conducted by UKAS certified laboratories demonstrated that the wall coating reduces water absorption of the walls and contributes to improved thermal performance. It has been demonstrated to meet the EAD 040083-00-0404 standards.
Testing in a hygrothermal chamber revealed that a wall treated with the wall coating and subjected to repeated heat-rain conditions in accordance with EAD 090062-00-0404 reduced heat loss compared with the uncoated (control) wall. In comparison to ProPERLA-coated walls, uncoated walls lost 60C more heat on average.
As well as improving thermal efficiency, the wall coating contributes to lower energy consumption and lower energy bills by keeping walls dry. Walls that are damp act as ‘thermal bridges’, allowing heat to transfer twice as fast from the inside out.
Breathable
Importantly, ProPERLA Facade Coating is highly breathable. The coating had little effect on substrate water vapour diffusion when tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 7783:2011.
The ProPERLA Exterior Facade Coating keeps walls and cavities dry while allowing air and moisture to escape. As a result, the building envelope maintains its ability to breathe. As opposed to some stone and brick sealing products, it does not coat the pores with a thin film that blocks them.
